Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton asks for impeachment articles to be dismissed AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is asking the Senate to dismiss the articles of impeachment he faces in his upcoming trial, arguing the bulk of allegations happened before his most recent election to a third term.In two related motions filed to the Senate on Monday, Paxton's attorneys argued that impeaching him would usurp the will of voters — considering the majority of allegations were already public and Texans still reelected the attorney general. Paxton's defense team cited state law known as "prior-term doctrine," arguing Texas prevents the removal of a public official for alleged conduct that happened prior to their most recent election. Austin officers commend 'brave' girl who escaped from kidnappers AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several of the police officers who responded to a kidnapping call last week commended a teenage girl for hatching the plan to escape from her alleged captors. Three of the five officers who helped thwart the kidnapping attempt and reunite the girl with her family spoke to reporters Monday afternoon, sharing new details about how they learned of this situation. Officers Rachel Stahlke, Cody Carr and Callie Wolfe shared they went to a store located near Shoal Creek Blvd. and Steck Avenue on July 25 after the girl called 911. While that number may be decreasing, certain workforces are feeling the impacts of unemployment the hardest. Driver charged with BWI after Lake of the Ozarks boat crash into home CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. - A man accused of handling a boat while intoxicated and striking a home in the Lake of the Ozarks region now faces criminal charges. Camden County prosecutors have charged Adam Jason Ramirez, 47, with seven felony counts of BWI, including two for causing serious injuries, according to online Missouri court records. Overnight carjacking attempt in St. Louis foiled by disconnected battery A crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol states Ramirez was driving a boat with him and seven others on board. The report states he is also from Huntington Beach, California. Parson to sign bill for $50M in railroad improvements after Amtrak crash JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Governor Mike Parson and the Missouri Department of Transportation are set to announce a new Missouri Railroad Safety Crossing plan this week. On Thursday, the governor plans to sign House Bill 4, which includes $50 million in state funding to improve over 45 passive railroad crossings. The work comes just over one year after four people were killed and over 150 people were injured when an Amtrak train hit a dump truck at an uncontrolled railroad crossing in Mendon, Missouri. With that in mind, the governor's office said the state is focusing on 47 crossings on the three rail lines that carry passenger trains in Missouri.
