Residents of southern Minnesota will soon have a second area code option, in addition to the longstanding 507.With 507 numbers poised to run out in the next few years, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved 924 as an additional area code for the region that includes Rochester, Austin, Winona, Mankato, Worthington and Marshall. There’ll be no change for people who currently have 507 numbers. But starting soon, any new or additional lines in southern Minnesota may be assigned the new 924 area code in what’s called an area code overlay. It’ll be the state’s eighth area code, and the first new area code in Minnesota since 763 and 952 were introduced in the Twin Cities suburbs back in 2000.And it may not be the last. A PUC document said the 218 area code in northern Minnesota is poised to run out of numbers by the end of 2026, though the commission hasn’t announced plans for addressing that shortage.Minnesota’s other area codes are forecast to have enough numbers for at lea...

Supply chain lessons learned; preparing for the next disruption

ST. LOUIS – “The stresses that were put on the supply chain were extreme. It definitely was a giant stress test,” said Logan Cooper, senior regional traffic manager at OEC Group’s St. Louis bureau.Logistical nightmares Cooper and his colleagues navigated that don’t yet feel like distant dreams.“Containers coming into the West Coast. Trying to get them on the rail was a huge challenge. We had containers that sat for six months in some cases,” Cooper said.Cooper says the experience helped them better understand what worked, what didn’t, and what needed to change. A tall order, even for one of the leading cargo logistics providers from Asia to North America. Top Story: When and where to expect storms Thursday near St. Louis “One of the big things for us is what we call transloads. A container that’s coming to the Midwest, instead of using rail to get to the Midwest, which is going to be one of those choke points, we will transload it,” he said. “We will unload the cargo container, pu...

The family of a 16-year-old girl who had been missing since Jan. 1 and who was recently found safe and reunited with her mother, held a press conference Wednesday to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for their efforts in finding the teen.  Alinka Castaneda, 16, left her family’s home in Carson on New Year’s Day and was seen “entering an unknown vehicle” in the 23000 block of South Carodale Avenue at 5 a.m., officials with the sheriff’s department said.   Footage from a Ring doorbell camera captured an unidentified man walking toward Castaneda moments before she disappeared. While the teen’s family initially believed her disappearance may have been an attempt to run away, they later received several distressing calls from the 16-year-old, which prompted fears that she may have been a victim of sex trafficking. Moses Castillo, a retired LAPD detective and a private investigator who worked on the case, told NewsNation that there was at...
